Academic freedom?

Lindsay Beyerstein links to this interesting story about Juan Cole's near-appointment at Yale.

This story is similar to the sordid tale of the firestorm that ensued when Walt and Mearsheimer published "The Israel Lobby." A good way to destroy an academic career is to criticize AIPAC or militant Zionism. As Orwell pointed out, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
